Rochester Silver Works

Our History

Once the silver department of Eastman Kodak Company, when Rochester Silver Works, LLC (RSW) opened it’s doors as a private company in 2011, it already had nearly 100 years of experience to it’s credit. All 55 highly skilled Kodak employees from the department stayed on board, bringing with them years of expertise, and a combined background in key products and services that is unequaled in the industry.

RSW has an expert staff of chemists, engineers, analytical technicians, operators and administrative personnel experienced in handling all forms of silver and film based materials for refining and recycling. RSW also retained a state of the art  manufacturing site which covers 10 acres of land and all necessary automated equipment.

In our first three years as RSW we have added shucking (sorting) services, silver oxide  production and several new refining streams to our portfolio.

Corporate Responsibility

Rochester Silver Works, LLC (RSW) builds upon nearly a century-old philosophy of recycling both hazardous and non-hazardous materials.  This recycling concept was initiated by Eastman Kodak Company for its manufacturing scrap and by-products in the early years of the 20th Century. RSW continues to practice this responsible industrial-scale recycling philosophy.

RSW’s efforts avoid discards of millions of pounds of plastics and precious metals to landfills each year. Instead, over 95% of plastic and 99.9% of silver bearing materials received at RSW are re-worked and re-used as raw materials for new products. Most materials to RSW are processed and forwarded for use in approximately 30 days. RSW also applies a stringent manufacturing code of conduct that ensures production personnel safety and operational excellence.

We also seek to conduct our business in a way that minimizes any negative impact on the natural environment. Environmental responsibility is integrated into our strategic planning, management systems and day-to-day operations. Key environmental parameters are routinely monitored by state and federal authorities.
